Darcy is a 15.1hh 15 year old liver chestnut mare. I have owned Darcy for 8 years and in that time she has been to lots of fun rides, XC courses, the beach, pleasure rides out to Forrest’s, show jumping and generally hacking.
Over the last few years she has mostly been used as a happy hacker however we have had the occasional trip out to different places.
Under saddle this mare is a dream. She is always willing to please and doesn’t put a foot wrong! She will lead or follow when hacking, the only thing she isn’t too keen on is heavy machinery which she can spook at, other than that she is golden.
Unfortunately, Darcy has some traits of a chestnut mare. She can be quite grumpy with ears back, at times however in the 8 years I have owned her she has never once bitten me or kicked me. It’s all bark and no bite. She just likes to shake her head at some things.
Although she has been on lots of trips out over the years she isn’t the best to load. She will stand there for a while and throw the odd rear in, but gives in after 10 minutes, you just have to be patient and persistent. Fine to be shod/tack up.
This is truly a cracking little mare suitable for a confident teenager/mother daughter share etc she can be strong at times, but never dangerous.
Like I say I have owned Darcy for 8 years, I have recently started a new job as a nurse and unfortunately do not have the time like I used to. Darcy is a unique horse who needs someone who is patient and understanding when she has a grumpy face. This mare loves to work, and unfortunately just hasn’t been able to do that lately. All tack can be available as well as rugs etc. Home is more important than price.
