Description

Location TA11, Somerton, Somerset. Separate grooms section with tack fittings. No living.

Volkswagen VW Crafter Twin Axle 5 ton horse box conversion, reported date 2018.

Turbo diesel 2461cc, 6 forward gears

Three cloth seats in the cab, in reasonable used condition.

136k miles on the clock.

Electric windows and central locking to cab.

Original date of first registration was 24/10/2007

Speed limited to 56mph.

Full steel bulkhead behind driver and passengers.

Takes two rear facing horses, with plenty of headroom.

I was told when I bought it that the payload was 1800kgs.

Full height ramp (gives a nice gentle loading slope) on near side of vehicle. Can be operated by one person. Video available.

Twin rear axles give a good stable ride and horses travel well in this box.

Tack/grooms area with locking door (with opening window) through to horses and same to exterior.

It has an immobiliser so it retains its battery power and has always started first time for me.

It runs really well and has plenty of torque.

Camera to horse area (with sound) or for reversing.

Tie rings (4) inside and out.

LED Lights (2) to both load and grooms area, (4 in a total) switch in grooms area.

I believe it was a works service van. It did have a Tacograph, but that has been removed.

I was told it had a new turbo just before I bought it as part of the conversion. The turbo works well.

It’s always been kept under cover in a barn during my ownership.

I’ve always mucked out and kept the bedding clean to preserve the floor and have it ready for use.

It’s been regularly mot’d and although it has had advisories, these have been dealt with appropriately.

Since purchase I have done the following

Additional Windows. (2020) by Galaxy Horseboxes

Ramp doors (2020) by Galaxy

Grooms benches opened for additional storage. (2020) by Galaxy

Vacuum pump replaced (2020)

Hydraulic ramp unit replaced (2021) by Galaxy

Brake callipers hoses, discs and pads (2022)

New tyres all round (2022)

Fresh Mot (Mar2024)

Recon gearbox with 12 month warranty (March2024) requires a 6 month inspection adjustment in September 2024.

New clutch kit and dual mass flywheel March 2024

New wishbone arm to O/S/F March 2024

New wiper blades March 2024

It has not wanted for anything.

Observations/ negatives

There is a little ding in the rear panel.

There is a little rust on each cab door (see photos).

The radio isn’t very loud.
