Description

Joey is a 7 year old 15.2h Connie gelding.

This is a completely honest advert and not easy to write.

I bought Joey at the end of February as a happy hacker and to take on fun rides/ beach rides. I was made aware at the time of buying that Joey had suffered a previous injury to his right stifle (full vet report can be disclosed) but that he was still perfectly rideable on the flat, however could not be jumped.

Since bringing Joey home, my instructor noticed that Joey did not look completely sound in his back end and so the vet was called out. To cut a long story short, the vet believes that this lameness is still relating to the old injury and is unlikely to ever permanently heal completely.

He has had a short course of bute, however this did not improve the lameness as hoped. The vet stated that there were other options to explore but she was unsure as to how much they would actually benefit him.

I have ridden Joey very lightly since owning him and before the vet’s involvement . In the school (walk and trot) he has been fine, if not a little lazy. He has lunged well, going mostly off of voice commands. I hacked him out only a few times, and he HAS bucked on two occasions. I cannot say whether this was due to pain or freshness as he has not been worked much over the last 6 months.

Joey is excellent in the stable, he is currently in at night and out during the day. He is excellent in the field, currently out with other geldings. He is excellent to groom and is perfect for the farrier. He is currently shod all round but shoes will be removed whilst he is out of work.

His ground manners when leading could use a little bit of work, however I believe this could be due to him being bored and not worked!

To wrap it up, I would say that Joey needs a home as either a companion, for VERY light ridden work with a small adult, or for in hand work. He has a heart of gold but I unfortunately to do not have the knowledge to rehabilitate his injury nor can I afford to keep a companion and a ridden horse.

As the vet said, I do not know what the future holds for Joey- perhaps after a year in the field he would come back better but I cannot guarantee this.

Joey will not be sold to a dealer, and any homes will be vetted by myself.

*Joey will not pass a vetting, however I will more than happily provide details of my vet who has seen him.

*Please do not enquire/ buy him thinking you can jump on him and go straight away

*He is NOT currently sound and in work!

Joey is sold as seen, however I would like to stay in contact with new owners. He will come with rugs and a few other things but NO tack.

Please feel free to ask any questions.
