Description

Nutmeg is a full up 15.2h 11 year old liver chestnut registered Connemara X Irish draught mare. She is with me on sales livery on behalf of her owner. She is a real fun, ride who loves her jumping, hacking and fun rides and has some character. She is lovely quality horse with excellent conformation, clean legs and straight movement. She is a lovely stamp, with a nice amount of bone and substance without being too wide and heavy. She is the perfect size for both adults and teenagers to enjoy- the perfect mother/ daughter share. She combines the best of the Connemara (jump) and the Irish draught (safety). She is the type very hard to find.

Nutmeg loves to jump and makes a real scopey shape over a fence. She is really fun to jump being both honest and reliable. She takes you nicely into a jump without rushing and is happy to jump from both trot it canter. She jumps all fillers and water trays without hesitation. She happily jumps 90cm courses with potential to jump higher too. She gives such an amazing feel over a jump as she is very neat in front and behind. She’s very careful and rarely touches a pole. She has participated in jumping lessons at different venues as well as jump clinics and unaffiliated sj. She definitely had the scope to jump affiliated BS. She’s a real confidence giver to jump and nicely forward going.

Nutmeg also really loves xc. She is bold into her jumps but very safe and sensible at the same time. She jumps all sorts of fences including logs, tyres, water, hedges, timbres ect. She gives her rider lots of confidence over xc jumps. She is also very well behaved to take xc schooling with another horse and patiently waits her turn and isn’t at all nappy. She will step up/ down to suit her rider.

Nutmeg is an amazing hack, both alone and in company. She is very good on the roads. She has to hack straight out onto a main road so she has seen lots of traffic and isnt fazed. She is very sensible and dependable and used to escorting my friends horses out. She isn’t the spooky type. She is also lovely in open spaces, very sensible but still lots of fun and enjoys a long canter along the river banks. She will happily canter in any order within the ride without getting competitive. She is the perfect speed to hack, just nicely forward going but not at all strong and never fizzy. She’s also very comfortable. Everyone loves hacking her including all of my friends, she always puts a smile on your face. She has been on fun rides and to Thetford forest where she was amazing. She has also previously been hacked by a 70 year old man and looked after him. She has also hunted in her previous home where she was great. She would be in her element in a hacking/ pleasure ride home as she really loves exploring the countryside and getting out and about.

Flatwork is nutmegs least enjoyable discipline. She has 3 good paces and is nicely responsive to transitions with a light soft mouth. She has good basic flatwork but she isn’t a dressage horse. She is a nice medium speed and responsive to transitions. She rides around more like a good riding school horse, although she has just started to understand working into the contact into an outline. Her previous owners have been far less interested in jumping and hacking her which reflects in her flatwork, but shge is starting to go very smartly. She has picked this up quickly so Im sure she will continue to come on in her flatwork with a capable experienced rider who can guide her. She needs a bit more work on getting the correct canter lead on one rein, we are currently using a pole or jump to encourage her to pick up the correct lead. She is very genuine and happy to work in the school though and gives everything a go.

Nutmeg is a real stunning girl and lovely to have around on the yard. She is great to catch, lead, groom, tack up, bath, farrier, load ect. She is a typical mare and can pull faces in the stable sometimes but she isnt difficult can be easily managed. She just needs boundaries setting and firm yet fair handling. As soon as she knows you are boss she is so easy. But she would walk all over a nervous passive handler. She is not at all mareish with her seasons or hormonal at all. She will live in or out, does like a routine, currently comes in during the day and goes out at night which suits her well. She likes to be in a routine alongside other horses (at my yard she is on the same routine as 4 other horses so she always has horses alongside her either in the stable or field). She didn’t settle as well on her owners yard as she only has a few horses and they live out 24/7 and just come in as and when to be ridden with no real routine. So she definitely thrives off a routine and a slightly buiser yard environment. She has individual turnout with me but used to be turned out with others in her previous home. She is a very sound and healthy horse and passed a 5 stage vetting in October 2023 when her current owner purchased her.

This is a very sad sale for my client as she really loves Nutmeg and has had some awesome days out jumping with her. But due to her own personal circumstances changing with a young child who has now just started to walk she feels Nutmeg would be better suited in a home where she will be able to get out jumping and hacking more which she just isn’t having time for now. 10* knowledgeable home only. I would love her to go to a home where she can enjoy jumping and hacking and just have lots of fun! She has so much to offer someone. She is based on livery with me near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, £8,750 videos available. Please call Katherine on - Click here to reveal phone number - o arrange a viewing.
